Region: Rethymno
This tour is perfect for active travelers dreaming of discovering the “real Crete” in all its beauty.
Your adventure begins with a visit to the most famous gorge on the island — Samaria Gorge, one of Europe’s longest and most spectacular hiking routes. Dense pine forests, mountain air, crystal-clear water, dramatic landscapes and unforgettable scenery await you inside this protected National Park.
The hiking route covers approximately 18 kilometers and usually takes 4–6 hours to complete. Along the way, you’ll walk down stone paths and stairs, cross streams flowing through rocky passages, admire breathtaking views and maybe even meet the famous local donkeys helping tired hikers continue their journey.
One of the highlights is the famous Iron Gates — the narrowest point of the gorge, where the walls rise dramatically around you and the passage narrows to only 3.5 meters.
After finishing the hike, you will arrive at Agia Roumeli, a remote village built on the ruins of ancient Tarra, where the Samaria River meets the Libyan Sea. Here you can relax on the beach, swim or enjoy lunch by the sea.
The journey continues with a ferry ride to Sfakia, a traditional fishing village known for its wild landscapes, peaceful atmosphere and authentic character.
This is more than a tour — it is a full day immersed in Crete’s mountains, history, sea and nature.
